First of all, I would like to thank everybody for the support we received during the electoral campaign and on the Election Day. We obtained 2 seats on the Council. The second seat was really very close. A few votes less and we would only have had one seat. This means that every vote has been very useful. The overall results of the local elections were quite surprising. There wasn't a clear winner. The PSOE got 3 councillors and the most votes. However, they lost 3 seats compared to the former elections, so it is difficult to say that they won. All the other parties got 2 seats, even PITA (the former major’s party!!). On provincial, autonomic and national level, the great winner was the PP. As a result, they will be ruling the “Diputacion Provincial”. They will probably also rule in the “Mancomunidad” (consortium of 31 villages) and everything is pointing to a new victory next year in autonomic and national elections. As it is clear that the PP is going to take over from the PSOE on all levels, it was obvious to us that the Alcaucín coalition should include the PP. So, on Tuesday 24, we first talked to the PSOE, telling them that they should convince the PP to pact with them and that we would support this coalition. However, due to internal and personal conflicts it became clear that this was not viable. The only stable majority left was the coalition of PP-PA-Los Verdes. (PP=Partido Popular, PA=Partido Andalucista). We are convinced that this coalition is the most responsible one, at least if we defend the interest of our village. The PSOE, (with the most votes and with a very small margin of +2.5%) will go to the opposition. It is not the most voted list that should govern, but the coalition that is able to reach a stable coalition. The only other possibility was a government in minority of PSOE and Los Verdes. This was unacceptable for us, as we would depend on PITA, and more important, the PP was not included.
The next 4 years will not be easy, but we trust that we will be able to deliver a good job.
Thanks everybody.
Los Verdes de Alcaucín.
